This weekend, the Erie Rugby Club Men's A and B-Side teams traveled to the north side of Pittsburgh to take on the Westmoreland Highlanders at MLK field. The Erie men won in sloppy fashion by the score of 51-10 in the "A" Game, and 35-0 in the "B" Game. (see match reports below)
Erie now looks to upset division rival Akron RFC in Akron, in what looks to be the game of the week in the Allegheny Rugby Union. After beating Akron 15-14 last year, which ultimately crushed their 2008 playoff hopes...Akron no doubt is seeking revenge.
A Game
Erie got off to a scary start, when Erie #8 Shane Hoyne deflected a kicked ball to Erie fullback Nate Moore (#15), who mis-played the ball in the endzone...giving Westmoreland an early 5-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, Erie's Hooker Zack Krajkowski, and Flanker Pat Barrett, both went down with injuries...forcing Erie to adjust our lineup and gameplan.
The remainder of the match would go in our favor though, as Erie lit up the scoreboard with (5) first-half tries...and (4) second-half tries to Westmoreland RFC's (2) total.
Erie A Side Lineup: 1. Phil Gallegher, 2. Zach Kracjowski, 3. Austin White (c), 4. Mike McKenzie, 5. Bob Nelson, 6. Pat Barrett, 7. Phil Sciaretta, 8. Shane Hoyne, 9. Tom Tredway, 10. Adam Mook, 11. B Game
After learning that Westmoreland refused to play a full B-Side match, Erie recruited a single Highlander and filled out both teams to ensure that everyone making the trek would get some valuable playing time. The team wearing the Erie jerseys did, however, get off to a great start...and never looked back.
When all was said and done...Erie walked away with another victory, to the tune of 35-0. A good time was had by all, and in true Erie fashion...we went on to also win the party!
Erie B Side Lineup: 1. Phil Gallegher, 2. Jim Shippling, 3. Kevin McCaslin, 4. Keith Gebhart, 5. Brett Schafer, 6. Rich Horneman, 7. Matt Verga, 8. Mike McKenzie, 9. Timmay Timmay, 10. Alex Francani, 11. Ryan Kruzewski, 12. Casey Jones, 13. Tom Tredway, 14. Isaac Richards, 15. Kevin Jackson
