Proceeds from the Erie Rugby Club's 8th Annual Caroling Rugger Poker Run to benefit Shriner's Hospital for Children.

Despite having no formal voice training, the brave souls of the Erie Rugby Club will once again take the streets - or rather, the establishments of Erie - to spread the Christmas spirit and raise money for a worthy cause as they kick-off the 8th Annual Caroling Rugger Poker Run to benefit the Shriner's Hospital for Children on Saturday, December 11th. The wassailers will then bus their way around Erie visiting a number of local establishments and entertaining the patrons for approximately an hour at each stop.

The Erie Rugby Club has successfully raised over $6000 for the Shriner's Hospital over the past 8 years, and we will continue to do so for many more. As well as helping monetarily, The Erie Rugby Club also assists the Shriner's sled-hockey team on Friday nights during their season. Each week, a few members of our club are on-hand to help the kids get suited up and on/off the ice. It's a unique way of showing these kids that we care, and that despite being dealt a bad hand in life, they can do many of the things that we all enjoy today...like playing sports. In the past, members of the Erie Rugby Club have even participated in a wheelchair basketball event with patients, which, most admit, was a very humbling experience!

For a very reasonable price of $20, anyone over 21 years of age is invited to participate in our 8th Annual Caroling Rugger Poker Run. In exchange, participants will receive a game card which will be stamped at each establishment. At the last stop, participants will receive one playing card for each stamp to create (hopefully) the best poker hand. The winning hand receives half of the collection, with all other proceeds benefiting the Shriner's Hospital. There will also be a donation bucket that will be available for any interested patrons of the participating local establishments.

The Erie Rugby Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of Rugby in and around the Erie area and contributing to the Erie community. Founded in 1973 by Erie natives, the Erie Rugby Club now has a Division 3 Men's rugby team (2nd in our division in 2008), Women's team, and a Boys U19 team, respectively. We compete in the Allegheny Rugby Union, which is a subsidiary of the Midwest Rugby Union under the national umbrella of USA Rugby.
