This weekend, The Erie Rugby Club will host the 14^th Annual Mad Anthony’s Ale Rugby Tournament, sponsored by The Erie Brewing Company, Odyssey Builders, & The Erie Rugby Club, among others. Since 1995, this tournament has been host to some of the finest rugby in the Tri-State area! Teams from Ohio, Michigan, New York, West Virginia and other states continue to make the trip each spring to play in this great event.

The Erie Rugby Club Men’s team is looking to defend their title against some very stiff competition this year. The Pittsburgh Rugby Club, one of Erie’s longtime rivals, will be on hand to try and dethrone Erie…as well as many other quality teams from the Tri-State area including The South Pittsburgh RFC, Clarion RFC, South Buffalo RFC, and The Penn State Behrend RFC!

This weekend is also very exciting for entire Erie Rugby community, as our U-19 Boy’s High School Rugby Team will be playing their first official match during the tournament! The St. Ignatious High School Rugby Team will be traveling in from Cleveland OH for a friendly consolation match during the tournament. Projected kickoff is 9:00am.

The tournament will take place at the fields behind the Boys and Girls Club of Erie, located at 1515 East Lake Rd (fields along Gilson Ave). The first games will kick off at 11:00am. There will be two fields of action packed rugby, and plenty of room on the bleachers. Light food and beverage will be available at the main concession.

Admission is free…so bring your friends and family and experience the fastest growing sport on the planet.
