Erie represents well in Harrisburg PDF Print E-mail

On June 29th, the Erie boy's traveled to Harrisburg for their 35th Annual 7s Rugby Tournament.  Pitted against the Happy Valley RFC for our first match, and thinking we were going to lose...Erie scored early and often to win our first match 41-0.

Our second match didn't go nearly as good, as the "Grizzlies" out of Lancaster, Pa were able to take a commanding first half lead that we just couldn't overcome.  The second half went back and forth, with one try each for Erie and the Grizzlies...leaving us at 1-1 for the day.

Our last match of the day was against the 4th ranked Division 2 team in the nation, The Lancaster Roses.  Much like they did to every other team they faced, the Roses started the game with a couple quick tries.  Erie was able to step up on defence, when Little Bill punched in a nice try in late in the first half to make it 14-7 @ halftime.  The second half started off much like the first, but in Erie's favor when Austin White and Matt Verga were able to score a try each off the first two kick's of the game to make the score 19-14, Erie.  With a few minutes to go and only Billy to beat, Lancaster attemted to chip the ball over his head...when Billy smacked the ball out of the air.  Unfortunately for us, the ball hit the deck and bounced straight up into the kicker's hand who was now at pace.  The Rose's punched in one last try at the end to seal it...35-19, Roses.

Lancaster went on to win the tournament, after routing Carlisle 28-0.  Erie was the only team to give them a run for it...

For Division 3 Erie, this was a very inspiring day of rugby...considering the fact that our Fall season is just around the bend.

Scoring for Erie on the day were: Rob "Z" Parsons, Austin White, Jeremy Jaeger, Matt Verga, Phil Sciaretta, Billy Krucszki (sp?), & Bob Nelson
